FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS
MARVEL / DISNEY
“ Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and the Thing face their most daunting challenge yet as they defend Earth from Galactus and Silver Surfer.”
It’s Compin' Time!
Being mostly involved in animation for my career, I have missed many opportunities to work on a MCU movie. Some of my favourite super hero outings are the original Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy, so needless to say I was very ready to finally contribute to the grand tapestry of the MCU
Rocks, Robots & Rocket Ships
Joining quite late into this production, when there was a lot of work to do, I acted as an artist first, and developer second. I mostly worked on shots with The Thing, Herbie and the Excelsior rocket ship, but I also got to do a few things later in the movie when the city was being evacuated, and Johnny confronts Shalla-Bal in retro futuristic Times Square
Retro Steam
The one development project I did have time to do on this project was to create a tool for Nuke that allowed artist to place deep elements into a scene easily. The tool could handle multiple types of elements, like steam, fire, smoke, lava, etc… and because of the nature of deep, it could auto generated holdouts wherever you placed them. At first this appeared to be a simple dev project, akin to my CardBuddy tool, but as I dug deeper into the world of Deep data, it became its own very specific, and surprisingly complex thing
Saved The World Again
There’s nothing like seeing a super hero film on the big screen! These larger than life characters (Cough *Galactus*) deserve it imo. Watching Fantastic Four, and Superman bring a bit of optimism back into the world, during the same summer is something I’ll never forget!
